In 1963, the initial tram supports underwent galvanization and have remained in service since without requiring maintenance. While the Tramway itself required some modifications, including new cables, a new drive system, rock removal, and new cabins, all fasteners, structural elements, and miscellaneous materials involved in these renovations were hot-dip galvanized by Hubbell Galvanizing, amounting to a total of 400 tons (363 tonnes). The decision to opt for hot-dip galvanizing was based on the impressive service life demonstrated by the old structure. Given that the steel components would be exposed to both desert climates and snowy, mountainous terrain, hot-dip galvanizing was deemed the ideal choice for long-lasting protection.
