There are a few reasons why a coloring coating (powder coating or paint) is applied to a product. First, galvanized product eventually ages to a dull gray finish. Aesthetically, this may not fit into the surrounding environment, so the product is coated with an appropriate color. Second, in some applications, for example industrial, it may be necessary to use color to distinguish one process system from another. The color coating serves as an identifier. Finally, it may be desirable to extend the life of the galvanized coating due to extremely harsh environmental conditions. Applying a coating over the galvanized surface has a synergistic effect and can increase the lives of both the powder coat and galvanizing by up to one and one half times their individual lives combined.
