The coating material is finely ground into a granulated, dry solid powder. It is then applied electrostatically to a surface (typically metal). The static charge provides an adhesive force for the dry particles. The application of heat causes the particles to melt. The individual particles fuse together to form a continuous fluid layer. Finally, additional heat initiates a chemical cure reaction which forms a solid paint film.
